"It's gonna be a new day for you!"

Up until election night I was listening with great hope to one of my favorite Basia songs called "It's gonna be a new day for you!". On November 5th our half German/half America son, who had spent a mere 19 weeks on the planet Earth by that point, arrived for the first time on the shores of his father's native America with his mother, to see that new day dawn.

Barack Hussein Obama was chosen, in a landslide victory that restores American democracy, to be the next president of the United States.

For all of us around the world who are eager to see our cities become solar cities, this is the best thing to happen in the history of world politics. Sure it is sad that we have had to wait until the end of the first decade of the 21st century to begin creating a government with both the economic and political power to embrace the hard work so many around the earth have done to create effective ways of capturing clean energy and lead the world into a sustainable future. We could have gotten there are century ago if the work being pioneered in Egypt during the coal crisis at the end of the first decade of the 20th century had been expanded. But here we are.

A new day is finally dawning.

So we can celebrate.

And then get back to work.

The hard work of kicking the oil habit.

We are like any addict who has declared he has a sickness and now truly wants to be cured -- now comes the daily challenge of meeting that commitment.

But as Obama has reminded us, "yes, we can!"

Congratulations America. Congratulations all of you in the world who have worked for, dreamed of and waited for a brighter future -- a sunlit bright future.

It's gonna be a new day for you.
